Pre-draft rankings are floating around everywhere. NFL network analyst Mike Mayock released his total rankings by postion last night. The list featured top guys at every position from quarterback to safety. On that list is San Diego State tight end Gavin Escobar. Out of the tight end group, Mayock is listing him as #3. Another NFL network analyst had similiar thoughts on the junior tight end.
Escobar is underrated at this point, but scouts have been buzzing about his immense talent and potential. – Bucky Brooks, NFL Network
Brooks expects Escobar to “rise up the charts” after his combine, which analysts are expecting big things from. Just about every pre-draft ranking I’ve seen has Escobar listed in the top three and he’s expected to go as high as late in the second round. He has great hands and runs fluid routes. I expect a team like Atlanta could get a steal on him if they don’t decide to take a tight end with their first pick. The Chicago Bears could also be looking to pick him up at some point to get Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall some help on the offensive side of the ball. Escobar is 6’6″, 245 pounds and provides a nice big target for a quarterback.
You can catch him at the combine when tight ends start working out on Friday February 22nd.
